Sure the film is graphic, but I imagine even without Hollywood effects, any flogging/crucifixion would be a messy and unpleasant affair. When it was released, I saw it in the theater. Anyone that has actually read the Bible, New Testament specifically, for reasons of faith or as a work of fiction will know that what was portrayed on screen is what is written in the books. I personally don't feel that any one group was intentionally singled out any differently than how they are depicted in the Bible.
